20-Year Botnet Toppled: US and CrowdStrike Dismantle 'Sality'

U.S. law enforcement and cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike have launched a coordinated global operation to dismantle "Sality," a Russian cybercrime network active since 2003. Authorities seized domain names and reversed the botnet's infrastructure to trick compromised computers into severing ties with their creators. The long-running malware operation had infected computers worldwide to transmit spam, execute distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, and deploy secondary malware.
