A Filipino domestic worker lost her entire year of savings—100,000 Philippine pesos—to a sophisticated romance scam. Fraudsters based in Nigeria used hyper-realistic AI deepfake video calls to impersonate Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed. Believing she was in a real relationship, the victim was conned into sending money for fake royal fees and hotel reservations before realizing the deception.
