AI Infrastructure Investment Could Hit $769B in 2026 as Safety Concerns Grow

AI infrastructure and model-architecture investment is projected to reach $769 billion in 2026, more than five times the $145 billion invested in 2025, according to McKinsey’s Technology Trends Outlook 2026. Nearly $384 billion was invested in the first half of 2026 alone. The surge is being driven by spending on chips, data centres and power, while shortages of energy and talent, cybersecurity risks and AI safety concerns remain challenges.
