Anthropic Settles Landmark Copyright Lawsuit with Authors
Anthropic has reached a proposed class-action settlement with U.S. book authors—Andrea Bartz, Charles Graeber, and Kirk Wallace Johnson—who accused the AI company of using pirated books to train its Claude models. The legal dispute stemmed from allegations that Anthropic downloaded up to 7 million copyrighted works via shadow libraries, exposing it to massive damages.
