ChatGPT Gets Wheels: OpenAI’s First Hardware Device is an Animated Smart Speaker

OpenAI is pivoting away from an expected smartphone to develop a screenless, portable smart speaker powered by ChatGPT. Designed in collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive, the device uses camera sensors to read rooms, anticipates user habits, and features mechanical parts that shift to appear "alive." Scheduled for a 2027 release, the project has already sparked a trade-secret lawsuit from Apple.
