Chip Wars 2.0: China Moves to Keep Its AI Breakthroughs at Home

China is considering tighter export controls on advanced AI technology and semiconductors, according to the Financial Times. Proposed measures would restrict overseas transfers of AI training data, limit foreign access to open-source model weights, and block Western acquisitions of Chinese tech start-ups. Additionally, the rules could prevent foreign foundries like TSMC from manufacturing advanced chips designed by Chinese companies like Huawei and ByteDance.
