Gatekeeping AI: Google Restricts Advanced Gemini Models for Free and AI Plus Users Starting October 9

Starting October 9, Google is tightening access to its Gemini AI models. Free users will be restricted exclusively to the Flash-Lite model, losing access to Flash and Pro options. Meanwhile, AI Plus subscribers will also lose Pro model access. Google is simultaneously rolling out compute-based usage limits pegged to prompt complexity, encouraging users to upgrade to higher paid tiers for advanced features.
