Google Is Replacing Gemini’s Custom “Gems” With More Flexible AI Skills

Google is shutting down Gemini Gems, its feature for creating custom AI assistants, and replacing them with Skills. Starting November 17, 2026, existing Gems will automatically migrate to Skills, so users won’t lose their custom configurations. Google says Skills can be used across different AI tasks, while users can select them within Gemini conversations.
