No Silicon Authors: India Rules AI Cannot Hold Copyrights

India's Copyright Office rejected an application to list the AI system DABUS as the author of an artwork, ruling that copyright requires a natural or juristic human person. While recognizing AI-generated content can meet legal standards for originality, the authority affirmed that autonomy in execution doesn't grant legal personhood—attributing statutory authorship instead to the human who caused and configured the work.
