OpenAI Launches “Instant Checkout” — Challenges Google & Amazon in AI-Driven Shopping
OpenAI has unveiled an “Instant Checkout” feature in ChatGPT that lets U.S. users buy from Etsy and soon 1M+ Shopify merchants directly within the chat. It handles payment, shipping and merchant integration, powered by a new open-source “Agentic Commerce Protocol.” This move could shift e-commerce power away from Google and Amazon toward AI as the new commerce gateway.
