Synopsys Abandons Legacy Fab Software to Double Down on AI

U.S. chip design giant Synopsys is discontinuing its legacy factory automation and fault detection software suite, used by major chipmakers like Samsung and SK Hynix. This strategic shift allows Synopsys to reallocate engineering resources away from older diagnostic tools and focus on higher-margin, AI-driven chip design technologies. Major clients do not expect production disruptions, as many already use in-house alternatives.
