University Falsely Accuses 6,000 Students of AI Cheating After Using Flawed Tool
An Australian university, Australian Catholic University (ACU), wrongly accused nearly 6,000 students of using AI to cheat based solely on a defective AI detection tool. The school admitted the system was “deeply flawed,” and many cases lacked human review. The burden of proof fell on the students, many of whom faced months of stress and reputational harm before being cleared.
