“Metaverse” is being used as clickbait in over 500 smartphone apps

<p>While an actual metaverse might not exist yet, the buzzword is already being used by various mobile applications as clickbait. Data agency, Sensor Tower shared a report that states that there are 552 mobile apps that have “metaverse” in their title, description. The report also reveals that globally ranked apps on the Play Store and App Store have added the term metaverse in the time between Nov 2021 and Jan 2022. Facebook's rebrand to "Meta" also happened during this time.<br />
