Automattic Resumes WordPress Contributions, Plans Version 6.9 with AI Enhancements

Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com, has announced the resumption of its contributions to the WordPress project after a brief pause. In a blog post titled “Returning to Core,” the company expressed renewed commitment to WordPress Core, Gutenberg, Playground, Openverse, and WordPress.org. CEO Matt Mullenweg aims to release WordPress 6.9 later this year, featuring an admin refresh and integrations from a newly formed AI team.
