State-run BSNL launched a rugged satellite phone priced at ₹1,34,166 for defence, maritime, and disaster response. Bypassing traditional cellular towers, the device connects directly to global satellites like Inmarsat for encrypted voice calls and SMS from extreme locations. Due to strict national security laws, buyers must secure explicit approval from the Department of Telecommunications.
