Ecosia Proposes 10-Year Stewardship of Google Chrome to Fund Climate Action
Berlin-based nonprofit Ecosia has submitted an unconventional proposal to a U.S. judge, offering to oversee a 10-year operational stewardship of Google Chrome by forming a new foundation. Under this plan, Ecosia would reinvest a portion of Chrome’s revenue into climate projects—such as rainforest preservation and green AI—while returning the remainder to Google. Although Google retains ownership and IP rights, the move offers a novel alternative to a traditional sale or divestiture.
