Sony and TSMC are teaming up on a $6.32 billion joint venture in Kumamoto, Japan, to manufacture next-generation image sensor microchips. Owned 60% by Sony and 40% by TSMC, the venture combines Sony’s sensor design with TSMC’s chipmaking power. Commercial production is targeted for 2029, aiming to power advancements in smartphones, robotics, automotive tech, and physical AI applications.
