Schwarz Group, the retail giant behind Lidl and Kaufland, announced plans to invest up to €5.6 billion by 2033 to construct a massive data center in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, northern Germany. Designed to reach 240 megawatts of capacity initially—and potentially 1 gigawatt by 2045—the facility aims to significantly expand sovereign cloud and AI capabilities across Germany and Europe.
