Google to Pay $30 Million to Settle YouTube Children’s Privacy Lawsuit

Google has agreed to a preliminary $30 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit alleging YouTube collected children’s personal data without parental consent for targeted advertising—despite a prior 2019 agreement. The settlement, filed in San Jose federal court and pending judicial approval, covers U.S. children under 13 who watched YouTube between July 1, 2013, and April 1, 2020. If approved, eligible claimants may receive $30–$60 each.
