Japanese companies to partner with TSMC to develop chip making tech

<p>20 Japanese companies including Ibiden co. have agreed to work along with Taiwan Semiconductor manufacturing co. or TSMC to develop chip-making technology. Japanese govt will cover 50% of the 37 bn yen for the development of chip-making technology. A new material research subsidiary near Tokyo will see TSMC spending $178 mn. Japan wants to keep its manufacturers in global competition as the demand for semiconductor chips grows.</p>
