Kakao Splits to Double Down on AI: KakaoTalk Platform Spun Off into KakaoAI for 2027 Relisting

South Korea’s Kakao Corp is restructuring into two listed entities on January 1, 2027. Its flagship chat app KakaoTalk, advertising, and commerce businesses will spin off into KakaoAI, focusing on agentic AI capabilities and relisting on January 27, 2027. The surviving firm, KakaoX, will manage investments, fintech, and mobility, aiming to eliminate conglomerate discounts and sharpen business specialization.
