Madras High Court stays sub-clauses of new IT rules

<p>The Madras High Court has stayed certain clauses introduced in the New IT Rules, 2021, stating that prima facie there was substance in the petition that a control mechanism would rob the media of its independence. The sub-clauses (1) and (3) of Rule 9 stayed. The matter has been adjourned till the last week of Oct, with the Supreme Court also scheduled to hear similar cases in the first week of Oct, after which a firm decision may be made.</p>
