NASA awards $ 2M to moonshot solar sail project

<p>The NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program has granted Phase III status to the Diffractive Solar Sailing project. NIAC is a high-risk, high-reward program that investigates the potential of unique space tech. The Diffractive Solar Sailing project at NIAC has received a $2M grant. The purpose is to build the framework for a diffractive lightsail tech demonstration mission. NASA is particularly interested in a solar polar orbiter project.<br />
