New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation banning landlords from using AI-based pricing software to set rental rates. The law deems such practices as collusion, even if unintentional, and updates antitrust laws to address algorithmic price-fixing. This move follows a 2022 ProPublica investigation linking RealPage's algorithm to rent inflation, with tenants overpaying an estimated $3.8 billion in 2024.
