OpenAI & Anthropic May Tap Investor Funds to Settle Multibillion-Dollar AI Lawsuits
OpenAI and Anthropic are reportedly considering using investor capital to address potential multibillion-dollar lawsuits, as insurers refuse to underwrite full coverage for AI risks. OpenAI has secured up to $300 million in emerging risk coverage through Aon—far short of its liabilities—while Anthropic recently settled a copyright suit for $1.5 billion. With conventional insurance failing to meet these exposures, both firms may increasingly rely on internal or investor-backed funding.
