PhonePe Gets UAE Nod for Its First Locally Licensed Overseas Payments Business

Walmart-backed PhonePe has received in-principle approval from the UAE central bank for two payments licences, paving the way for its first locally regulated payments business outside India. It plans to work with UAE banks and payment providers and explore local payment rails including Aani and Jaywan. Final regulatory approvals are still required.
