Powering Defense: Wolfspeed Secures $1.5 Billion Federal Loan to Boost Advanced Chip Production

Chipmaker Wolfspeed has secured a $1.5 billion conditional loan commitment from the U.S. Department of Defense. The funding will expand domestic manufacturing of wide-bandgap semiconductors—such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride—which are critical hardware components for advanced defense systems, national security infrastructure, and next-generation power electronics.
