San Francisco-based semiconductor startup Volantis has raised $88 million in Series A funding to tackle AI's critical memory wall. The company is developing an innovative photonic architecture—utilizing laser-based micro-VCSELs instead of traditional copper cables—to dramatically speed up communication between AI processors and memory layers, targeting first customer deployments by 2027.
