Silicon Alliance: Sony and TSMC Eye $6.3B Mega-Venture for Next-Gen Sensors

Sony Group and TSMC plan to invest roughly ¥1 trillion ($6.3 billion) in a Japan-based joint venture to manufacture next-generation image sensors, according to Nikkei. Owned 60% by Sony and 40% by TSMC, the venture aims to begin commercial production in Kumamoto prefecture by 2029, combining Sony's design strengths with TSMC's advanced chipmaking to power smartphones, autonomous vehicles, and robotics.
