Tesla Declined $60M Settlement, Now Faces $243M Autopilot Verdict

Tesla turned down a $60 million settlement offer in a wrongful-death lawsuit over a 2019 Autopilot crash. A Miami jury awarded $243 million—$129 million in compensatory and $200 million in punitive damages—holding Tesla 33% liable (about $42.6 million plus the full punitive sum). The case, disclosed in May and newly filed, marks the first trial involving a third-party death linked to Autopilot. Tesla has denied liability and plans to appeal.
