Trump Imposes $100,000 Fee for New H-1B Visa Applications to Curb Program Abuse

President Trump has signed a proclamation raising the fee for new H-1B visa applications from $215 to $100,000, aiming to reduce perceived abuses of the program. The H-1B program allows U.S. companies to hire foreign workers in technical fields via a lottery system, capped annually at 65,000 visas plus 20,000 for U.S. degree holders. Exemptions are possible for cases deemed in the national interest.
