IIT students have designed 20 chipsets, with eight already taped out and sent to global foundries and India’s Semi-Conductor Laboratory in Mohali, announced IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at IIT‑Hyderabad’s convocation. This marks a significant step in India’s semiconductor mission, supported by EDA tools in 270 colleges and 70 startups. India aims to produce its first commercial-scale indigenous chip this year and become a top‑five chipmaking nation.
