Code to Code Red: AI Genetically Engineers Fully Functional Viruses from Scratch
By TechShots Studio

Stanford and Arc Institute researchers used AI models (Evo 1 and Evo 2) to design synthetic, synthetic-born viruses from scratch. Out of hundreds of generated DNA designs, 16 functional viruses successfully killed target bacteria, including drug-resistant E. coli. While the AI was restricted from human pathogens to target bacteria only, the breakthrough highlights alarming dual-use risks regarding unregulated AI bio-weapons and pandemic creation.
