Google’s Austrian Data Center Faces Protests Over Water, Energy and AI Costs

Residents in Kronstorf, Austria, are protesting Google’s planned 50-hectare data center over concerns about water use, electricity consumption, climate impacts and transparency. The first phase could consume up to 1.31 TWh of electricity annually, while Google says the facility will support cloud and AI demand and create jobs. The center is expected to begin operating in 2027
