Powering Up Biodiversity: Minnesota Solar Farms Become Insect Sanctuaries

A five-year study by Argonne National Laboratory found that planting native wildflowers and grasses beneath elevated solar panels tripled overall insect populations and boosted native bees twentyfold. Beyond creating thriving habitats for pollinators and birds, this "pollinator-friendly solar" approach lowers long-term maintenance costs and boosts nearby crop yields compared to using traditional turf or gravel.
