Preparing for the Digital Cash Era: ECB Selects 36 Partners for Major Pilot

The European Central Bank (ECB) has selected 36 payment service providers from over 50 applicants to participate in its upcoming digital euro pilot. Scheduled to launch in the second half of 2027, the 12-month trial will use a beta version of the digital currency to test technical functionality and user experience, aiming to reduce Europe’s reliance on international payment giants.
