The Secret's Out: OpenAI Chief Futurist Joshua Achiam Steps Down

Joshua Achiam, OpenAI’s Chief Futurist and a prominent voice in AI safety, is leaving the company after nine years. In a note to staff, Achiam stated that "the world is in on the secret now," making it possible to pursue AI safety from outside a frontier lab. His exit follows a wave of safety-focused departures as OpenAI reportedly moves toward an IPO.
