Accenture CEO Julie Sweet Says Never Turn Down a ‘Stretch Role’

Accenture CEO Julie Sweet advises that when offered a promotion or “stretch role”, even if you feel unqualified, never voice doubt. Instead, she leaned on guidance from ex–JPMorgan CFO Dina Dublon: “the person offering you a stretch role is often as nervous—or more nervous—than you are.” Confidently accepting such challenges, she says, unlocks opportunities for growth, as it did for her ascent to CEO.
