Game Over for 4,800 Roles: Microsoft Overhauls Xbox to Fund AI Dreams

Microsoft is cutting 4,800 global jobs (2.1% of its workforce) and spinning off or divesting up to five Xbox studios, including Compulsion Games and Ninja Theory. Despite buying Activision Blizzard, Xbox has struggled against Sony's PlayStation. The restructuring allows Microsoft to pivot away from console exclusives toward multi-platform distribution, shifting capital to offset its massive, $700 billion industry-wide AI data center spending.
