No More Dial-In Sick Days: Germany Overhauls Labor Policy

To boost economic productivity and shed the "sick man of Europe" label, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that starting January 2027, workers can no longer call in sick by phone. Instead, employees must visit a doctor in person to get a medical certificate on their very first day of illness.
