Samsung Officially Appoints Convicted Heir Lee Jae-yong As Executive Chairman

<p>Lee Jae-yong, also known as Jay Y. Lee in the West, has been named executive chairman of Samsung Electronics, giving the grandson of the company's founder official leadership, the South Korean tech giant revealed today. The statement coincided with Samsung's release of a slew of poor financial figures, with profits down 23% from the prior quarter. Lee’s ascension is unlikely to change much for the company in the short term.</p>
