After Number of Data Breaches, Australia To Strengthen its Privacy Regulations, Increase Fines

<p>Following multiple significant data breaches, Australia plans to enhance its internet privacy regulations, according to attorney general Mark Dreyfus. The Australian parliament will consider an amendment to the nation's privacy law this week that will raise the maximum fines for recurring or serious privacy violations from the current $2.2M AUD (about $1.4M) to up to AUD$50M (around $32M). The penalty can also be 30% of the company's total revenue if it's above $32 M.</p>
