After Number of Data Breaches, Australia To Strengthen its Privacy Regulations, Increase Fines

<p>Following multiple significant data breaches, Australia plans to enhance its internet privacy regulations, according to attorney general Mark Dreyfus. The Australian parliament will consider an amendment to the nation&#39;s privacy law this week that will raise the maximum fines for recurring or serious privacy violations from the current $2.2M AUD (about $1.4M) to up to AUD$50M (around $32M). The penalty can also be 30% of the company&#39;s total revenue if it&#39;s above&nbsp;&nbsp;$32&nbsp;M.</p>
