AI on the Defense: WhatsApp Tests On-Device Scam Warning System

WhatsApp has begun beta testing an optional "Scam Alert" feature on Android. Powered by an on-device machine learning model, it scans incoming messages from unknown contacts for fraud patterns without compromising end-to-end encryption. If suspicious behavior is detected, WhatsApp displays a private warning banner, allowing users to immediately block, report, or mark the sender as trusted. No message content leaves your phone.
