Oregon Man Charged for Operating One of World’s Most Powerful Botnets, ‘Rapper Bot’
Ethan Foltz, 22, from Oregon, has been charged for allegedly running Rapper Bot, a massive DDoS-for-hire botnet that harnessed 65,000–95,000 infected IoT devices—including routers and DVRs—to launch over 370,000 attacks across 80 countries. The botnet’s peak attack rate exceeded 6 terabits per second, targeting government systems, tech firms, and social media platforms. Authorities dismantled the network, seized its infrastructure, and halted further assaults.
