Baidu and Pony.ai gets green light to operate robotaxis without safety driver

<p>In Beijing, Baidu and Pony.ai have been granted authorization to run their autonomous vehicles without the use of safety drivers, marking a first in China for robotaxi services. They will still require a supervisor to be present somewhere in the car. The company is limited to operating within a distance of 60 sq. kilometers located in the Yizhuang area in Beijing. Baidu is said to be operating 10 vehicles and Pony.ai will be operating 4 with more to come soon. </p>
