ChatGPT’s Model Picker Returns: GPT-5 Adds Auto, Fast & Thinking Modes Amid User Backlash

OpenAI reintroduced its model picker for ChatGPT, offering “Auto,” “Fast,” and “Thinking” modes for GPT-5, after users complained about losing access to older models like GPT-4o. Plus subscribers can again select legacy models from settings. Though GPT-5's router aimed to simplify model selection, users missed flexibility and personality. OpenAI plans more customization and will monitor usage to fine-tune availability and features.
