China Trials Underwater Data Centres to Slash Cooling Energy by 90%

A Chinese firm is testing an underwater server pod off Shanghai to drastically reduce cooling costs—reportedly saving up to 90% energy compared to land data centres. Fueled by ocean currents, the submersible unit will run on renewable power and serve clients like China Telecom and a state AI provider.
