FBI & Canada Warn Chinese “Salt Typhoon” Hackers Targeting Canadian Telecom Firms

The FBI and Canada’s cybersecurity agency have alerted that Chinese state-backed hackers, known as “Salt Typhoon,” have compromised at least three network devices at a Canadian telecom operator by exploiting a Cisco vulnerability. The attackers established GRE tunnels to intercept traffic and collected call records and private communications. Officials warn Salt Typhoon will likely continue targeting telecom and other sectors in Canada over the next two years, urging enhanced network security.
