GlobalFoundries Buys AMF to Boost AI Data Center Speed

US chipmaker GlobalFoundries has acquired Singapore-based Advanced Micro Foundry (AMF), a specialist in silicon photonics. This technology, which uses light for ultra-fast and energy-efficient data transfer, is crucial for next-generation AI data centers and quantum computing. The move establishes GlobalFoundries as a major silicon photonics pure-play foundry and includes plans for a new R&D center in Singapore.
