Homegrown Cuts: Microsoft Quietly Dumps OpenAI, Anthropic for Internal AI

As part of an aggressive cost-cutting drive, Microsoft is quietly replacing OpenAI and Anthropic models within its flagship applications. Tens of thousands of Excel and Outlook prompts are now being routed weekly through Microsoft's internal "MAI" models. By leaning on its own cheaper, in-house artificial intelligence, the tech giant aims to eliminate heavy reliance on costly external AI labs.
